Works For Me Wednesday

For the past week, since Savie and I are sick, I have been letting her stay up (yes I know not a good reason to stay up late) but late for her is 9pm. Usually when we go to school she is ready to fall asleep about an hour after we get home. But I have come up with something that is bound to get her to go to bed.

There are a couple of shows that I record, mostly from PBS or TLC, and that's what we watch at night. If she has been up after hubby goes to bed (which is rare) she gets to watch 2 shows and then it;s off to bed. What i do is put on one new one and then one that we have already seen so she won't want to watch it and want to go to bed. The past couple of times that I have done this she has been wanting to go to bed without me.

I know, not the best way to get my daughter to go to bed but her, it works for me, lol.

Water. Yes I know it's the end of summer and we are all thinking about going back t school but what is working for me right now is water. You know you use it when it gets down ti the bottom of the bottle of soap/shampoo/laundry soap/etc. I don't know why I never used it before but this is common practice at school. The bottle that the kids used it watered down, not a whole lot but enough to make a big bottle of Ivory soap last a long time. So what am I doing at home about it?? I have added a lot of water, not to much, to my hand soap in the bathroom and the kitchen. It's also cut down on how much water we use to wash our hands.

Normally I would add a link to Shannon's blog but WFMW is on vacation and this is just for me.

Works For Me Wednesday #11

Button

The past couple of weeks, well really months, I have been working and most days it's great. The kids are a lot of fun and they are learning things, playing with things, it's an adventure. I have learned a lot about myself and just how much patience I have ( a lot). But everyone needs a break from that right? And Savie needs some "mommy time" where it is just the two of us doing stuff, like it used to be before we started going to school. So for the past couple of weeks we have taken off Wednesdays to go the movies. When we go back to school on Thursday and finish out the week we are both in a little better mindset, having that break from all the kids and noise and stuff. It has helped with my mindset to. Thank goodness when school starts again in a couple of weeks (Aug. 6th to be exact) that I will only be there 3 days a week.

So for the summer that is what is working for me? How about you? What is working for you?

It started out good

I was all set to start my post for WFMW and WW but then the power went out. Twice.

Thankfully Savie was asleep and didn't wake up at all but I wanted to call and check on K to make sure she was ok over there and ended up being on the phone for a good 15 minutes with her telling me the same thing she told me 2 hours ago. (I really need to stop calling her) Hubby decided to go to bed (not much else yo can do right?)when she woke up. But thank goodness the power came back on after another 20 minutes and I got to at least put this post up. Guess I will have to do WFMW and WW tomorrow when I have time to upload pictures.

De-skunking

Button

If you've read my tackle post you understand the title so you kinda know what I am talking about.

Halley, my wonderful, loving, 8yr dog loves to play, and sleep, and do what most dogs do. But her true love? That would be catching skunks. I mean she's done it 7 times now so I think that is her newest game. Why else would she get sprayed 7 times. But you might be asking yourself, how do you get the smell out of your dog at 11pm at night when all the stores are closed? Well let me tell you, this is what you do.

  1. stop your dog from coming in the house
  2. yell for husband to help you
  3. not get an answer from #2
  4. drag dog to the car to get the leash so we can keep her in one place (be sure not the let said dog get into car)
  5. run into the kitchen and dig for the de-skunking recipe
  6. un-hook dog and drag into the bathroom because dog knows that they smell and hates to take baths
  7. mix the de-skunking soap and proceed to bath dog
  8. repeat step #7
  9. call hubby again to help you so you can run to the washer to grab some towels
  10. wait 10 minute for hubby to get to you
  11. run to get towels
  12. drag dog out and put her outside (in the rain) to dry off
Not only did I tackle a pretty big thing but what worked for me having hubby around, even if it took awhile to help me, having a de-skunking recipe, and a leash close by. (If you want the de-skunking thing let me know)

What works for you?

"When does school start?"

That is the question I will be hearing so, in my own head of course. Savie is not in school officially so she doesn't get bored just yet. But I have a couple of things planned for us to do when we run out of the normal things to do. So far on my list

  1. Go to the pool
(we have a great pool in the next town that is like going to the beach)
  2. Go to movies in the park on sat night
  3. farmer's market on sat morning
  4. concert in the park on Thursday nights

I think that pretty much covers our whole week so we shouldn't get bored. We will be at school everyday so we will be busy. How about you? What are you plans for the summer?

Works For Me Wednesday

Button This week I have a weird one. What is working for me this week are kitchen gloves and plastic bags. (I told you it was weird)

Since I can't get my hand wet I have had to use a plastic bag to keep my hand dry. It feels weird and makes it a little hard to wash my daughter's hair but it works. The kitchen gloves are for, well, the kitchen. This is the first time that I have ever used kitchen gloves. I am not one to use gloves I need to feel what I am washing.

What works for you?

This is a small thing but it works for me. Most weekends I try to make pancakes for Savie and then I make a big batch to they can be frozen but since Savie is only 3 and will only eat maybe 2 a lot go in the freezer. I use an ice cream scoop to make pancakes her size. They are just her size and then I have a lot left over that will be her size when I reheat them. This also works for cookies, muffins, and the fish cakes that I just made this past week. I really need to buy another one since this is such a great thing for me.

Works for Me Wednesday

ICE CREAM SCOOP

Breakfast-always a problem for me to make and eat but I have finally come up with something do-able, for Savie. When making pancakes, after making the batter, I scoop out an ice cream scoop to make kid size pancakes. Two or three pancakes that size with some fruit and we are set.

When making muffins and now biscuits from a book I borrowed from a friend getting them to be about the same size is easy with an Ice Cream Scoop. I love my ice cream scoop. It's right up there with baby wipes.

Works For Me Wednesday

In an attempt to celebrate spring I have just a bunch of random things that I do.
  • Toy Box in the back of the SUV. It's got a bunch of random sand toys in it cuz you never know when you are going to stop at the park, especially here where there are 3 parks between our house and the library, and several in town when we go. This way I just pull up at the park, get her out of the car, pull the toy box, and that's it. Several toys have been added from other kids we play with but we see them throughout the week so it's ok. (which reminds me that I need to restock, lol)
  • Music in the morning. Some mornings I have a hard time getting us going and music has always a big movement factor for me so I turn on the TV to a digital radio station, make breakfast, wash some dishes, clean up some and we are moving that much faster.
  • "Hand on the car" when your out shopping and trying to put things in the car it's was to lose track of a kid I've found out, especially in the parking lot. Some days she doesn't want to get in the car first or I haven't pulled the keys out yet so instead of making her hold my hand (which doesn't help when I'm looking for the keys) I tell her to "put a hand on the car". You can't go very far when you've got a hand on the car, lol.

Works For Me Wednesday

I am a sucker for coupons. The only reason I buy a paper on Sunday is for the coupons. I've even have a couple of online sites I go to for coupons. There's CoolSavings.com, which is good but there's not a lot that I can use here. I don't buy a lot of my cleaners in stores and we only have one grocery store here so my choices are limited. But I'm sure that if you type coupons in your search program you'll come up with a lot of other things. I know this is weird but I also mail coupons to my friend in CA for things like diapers (she just had her 3rd baby so I think she needs all the help she can get, lol). Check out Rocks, she usually does this but she is in Africa for awhile so Don't try this is hosting while she's away.
