The things I get in emails

The things my friend sends me is usually something that I already knew, true not to this length but still who doesn't know that MSG and phrases like "Natural Flavoring" are bad? I've told her several times that we don't et this or that because it is so processed but she insists that is's ok to eat it, even if it is every now and then. Please have some respect for what I want in my child just like I have for her dogs.

MSG Dangers-------They knew !!!

Gee...how unsurprising that THEY KNEW!

---

MSG.

The food additive MSG (Mono-Sodium Glutamate) is a slow poison. MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as 'Natural Flavoring.'

MSG is even in your favorite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops!

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario , Canada , and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America.

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create them. They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born.

The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and perhaps humans) to become obese. They even have a name for the fat rodents they create: 'MSG-Treated Rats.'

When I heard this, I was shocked. I went into my kitchen and checked the cupboards and the refrigerator. MSG was in everything -- the Campbell 's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low-fat' ones.

The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called 'Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein,' which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate.

It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG are 'Accent, 'Aginomoto,' 'Natural Meat Tenderizer,' etc.)

But it didn't stop there.

When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items contained MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough, MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant -- even the sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's -- use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing. and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin -- their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative, or a vitamin?

Not according to my friend John Erb. In his book The Slow Poisoning of America, he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.

Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more.

A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating more is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?

'Betcha can't eat [just] one,' takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight!

MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance. Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

I am not prefect

I have never said, or thought, that anyone was perfect or had a prefect life. My thinking is when everything is prefect that's when it's over.

I think that some of the other moms that I spend time with (I think I've outgrown the phrase "hang out with") think that Savie is close to prefect. Not that they would ever day it but maybe it's me reading to much into their looks. Savie is by no means a prefect child. She has her days where she is clingy, whining, grumpy, rude, or just bad in a general way. Yesterday was one of those days. They happen. It's just a matter of how you deal with it, in my opinion. My thinking is how you react to a situation is how your child reacts to it as well. If you are clam and assertive, put on a brave front, then your child will have the confidence to do it. If you are upset and mad and angry, not happy about what is going on then they will act the same. I know it sounds weird but it's like dog training (I know it sounds kinda bad that way). But after watching a lot of Dog Whisperer, I've come to the conclusion that me being calm and going with the flow in most situations has helped Savie be confident.

We usually do stuff just the two of us when we are not at school and some of the other moms seemed surprised that she is, for example, ok about going on the rides at the fair by herself. We missed our friends so she really had no choice but she was fine with that. She has learned to make the best of her situation. Sure I would rather that she got to go on rides with a friend but you have to make do.

I started this post for a different reason but this will do. When I look at other families I know they are not prefect but they are having a prefect family moment.

I AM SO PROUD OF HER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry to yell but I am so proud of Savie.

Last night was our fashion show. I don't think I mentioned it all this week. Deb, the tie dye lady, and a couple of other people were having a fashion show last night to benefit the local animal shelter. It was great. We each had 3 outfits to wear and I think there were 9 of us all together, with 3 of them couples. We had a pretty simple thing to do, walk out show the clothes, then walk down the stairs, walk around the room, and then back up. We had 2 rehearsal where Savie was very clingy and not wanting to walk down the stairs even though it was only us there. I was really hoping that she would be ok for the show and not crabby, but there is also the fact that we did it at 6pm after being in school all day. I made sure she got a nap even though it wasn't as long a nap as I wanted, but she really needed it since the show was at night, 7pm to be exact.

But she did so great. We had her new teddy bear and BeBe with us, I put ribbons in her hair to match her outfits and we had so much fun. She did a great job, she walked out, stood, down the stairs, and around the room. She even used the flash light to show her purse and bracelet off. I can't wait for the pictures. I just wish that hubby had been there to see the whole thing but SAM was there and she liked it. The people that were there, I think there were about 20 of them, said that she did such a great job for her first time and her age.I can't wait for next year. Maybe I should have let her be in the pageant this year, lol.

As soon as I have pictures I will be posting them so please, check back for them ok?

Sunday Scribblings #17

Photobucket

It's Sunday and time for me to do some thinking. This week's prompt is ghosts, do you believe?

No not in the X-files kind of way but in the "life after death" kind of way. That would be. I believe there are ghosts/spirits out there and in my house and at the library and the local park ghosts are everywhere. I have no problem with them. For the most part I think they are mis-understood. I think there are plenty of them out there that had great lives, happy ones, and something happened to them.

I remember when I was in junior high or maybe even in elementary school, that a friend and I used an Ouija board to see if there were ghosts in the house that she lived in. Long story short, there was and we saw proof of it in an unsettling way. This is not the kind of ghost that I am happy with. I like the ones that move things around in the house when no one is there. You know, the ones that turn the light on in the bathroom when you know you turned it off, or put the milk back in the fridge when you left it on the counter. These are the kind of ghosts that I like. I acknowledge their presences, say thank you for putting something away for me, that kind of thing.

What about you? Do you believe? Are they out there for you? Watching over you

Today was going to be a good day. I had planned on taking a break from preschool and go to the movies. I thought it was about time for that big event in her life. I think this is about the age that I took my niece to her first. Plus the movie was only $1, yes you read that right $1. I was in love with that. All summer long on Wednes. I was really looking forward to this. We go there late (this time it was hubby's fault) so we rushed to get our tickets and find seats. Happy Feet started and I think about 15 minutes into the movie when it happened. The filmed burned.

I thought we were past the stage of having film reels in the theater but I guess I am wrong. We waited for a good 20 minutes to see if they would get it fixed but it turns out that this was the second time that this has happened. So we left. And got a rain check and we left. We went to the playgroup area and let the kids play for awhile, then we had lunch and went our separate ways. The cost of movies today:

Movie: $2 (refunded)
popcorn: $5.75
Lunch: $8.29
The time spent with friends: priceless
(yes, very MasterCard like I know)

Well I am hoping that next week when we go that things will work out for us but it was a good first time.

1. I despise shopping for clothes in the mall, a quirk I share with Smell Goods Spa and Black Domestic Goddess. If I didn't have to go to the mall I would avoid it but on the other hand I am a little leery about buying online sometimes.

2. I love ketchup and pasta sauce but can't stand tomatoes on my burger.

3. I can hear people chewing and it bothers me.

4. I refuse to pass gas anywhere but in a bathroom. on the toilet.

5. I don't like people to touch my feet and I hate wearing shoes but I hate to go shopping for them.

6. I wanted to be a stripper when I was in my twenty's.

OK I am going to tag my bloggy friends Claudia, Anna, Devon, Ana, Michele, and B. beautiful mind body spirit.

Ok now don't get mad

but I won again (ducking pillows). This time it was a giveaway from almost 2 weeks ago.

Did I tell you about "Frontier Days" in town a couple of weeks ago? I don't think I did (I need to also put pictures up of it). Savie and I went with another mom and her two kids. Savie and I had fun but I don't think my friend J did. But she had two kids to deal with and one was a little over a year so she's a squirmy little thing. There were a lot of fun rides for the kids to go on but there was a downside, we parents even had to have tickets to go on with the kids. That was a bummer especially when every ride takes 3 tickets and 20 tickets cost $15. But we did get to go on cool things like this one and of course we had to do this when we got there. But like most carnivals/fairs there is always the area that is set up for business's to do freebie's/giveaways. And as you can see from this and this I love giveaways. Well.....I won!! Free steaks from Schwan's!!!!!! I love this company and would love to order things from them all the time. If I could share my luck I would (ha ha) but I think I have hit the end of it.

On another note, Savie had her Dr. appt's today and he thinks it may be allergies. I was suppose to get a script for it tonight but it somehow didn't make it to the pharmacy's. Odd how that happened. But that means that I can pick it up tomorrow after I call the Dr's office and find out what happened to it. At least now I know why she might have a runny nose/cough for the past 15 days. Wish me luck.

It happened again

I won again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First I won on my friend Anna's site (I can't wait for my prize to get here from her) and from 5 Minutes For Mom I won this!!!!! Yeah I must be on a roll this morning. I could have used that luck when we were at the horse races this past weekend, lol.

Just a little info

Well first things first.... I won!!!!!!!! I was over at my friends Anna's blog and she was having a great giveaway so I entered but I love talking to her online anyways but I'm getting sidetracked here. She had some really cute things for her giveaway and was just commenting to say hi. But then this morning I got a comment on my blog saying I won!!!!!!!! So I was doing this (kinda) this morning. I love this song and it's my "happy dance" song (don't forget to turn on your speakers, lol)

Or maybe this one

I had my speakers on and Savie was all over the room dancing, lol. I wish I had my camera with me, it was just to cute.

I miss my friends

I miss my friends from high school. I really do. Like I said before one of my high school friends and I have been talking and working on losing weight (read this post for a little background) and we did our usual check-in for the week. Well we always manage to talk about other things as well. She told me that I should write a book about my many adventures here in Arizona. While talking to her today I told her about what happened last night, about our wedding, and other stuff that has happened to her. I love her. That was so nice of her to tel me that. l

Trying to work it out

I have been trying to lose weight for over a year and am not having much luck. I've tried various diet pills with no luck. Now I working with my friend in NY, well Brooklyn actually, who is trying to lose weight as well (you have to check out her site she has some really cool jewelry). After watching TLC I came across this show "I Can Make You Thin". At first I thought it was going to be someone selling something but it's not. It's some common sense things that make sense (that didn't make sense did it?) But so far it's easy. I've learned the 4 golden rules and they are pretty easy to follow. Check out his site, he has a book of the same title and some other books but I think I am going to stick with the and go from there, lol.

It's offical

I have tried to deny it for a long time now, and even after Savie was born I knew that I would have to stop doing this but I can't, I just can't stop myself. I am no a morning person and can not get out of the house before 11am. There I've said (well wrote it, same thing) and now I can move on and do something about it.

Today is Friday and I should be at the park right now but instead I am on the computer, in my pj's and haven't even made anything for breakfast. Savie is eating dry cereal because I didn't feel like putting milk on it (plus she has a bad cough and a runny nose so no more milk than necessary). I guess we really should get up and get dressed but after all the running around we did yesterday I really don't feel up to it. What did we do yesterday you ask that would make me feel so tired today, even after a good nights sleep? Well let me tell you....

Got a wake up call around 7 from another mother calling to see if we wanted to meet at her place or if I wanted her to drop L off at my place. I completely forgot that I promised to watch L for her while she had a Dr. appt. So now I have to jump out of bed and get Savie out and dressed so we can leave the house in 45 min. Did I mention that we don't really do morning's in my house? But we were only 5 minutes late, which isn't really a good thing since the place is only 5 minutes from my house!! LOL.
After playing with L she took us to breakfast to say thank you to me, which wasn't really necessary since I would do it for anyone and I would like to think that they would return the favor but anyways. By now it's 10 and I really want to get on the road for Tucson, it's a 2 hr drive to Tucson and I just want to go. But I'm not going alone, I have to wait for my friend.
Yeah the same one that has all the animals, so I know it will be awhile because she has to feed the lambs, get the hairless set, etc, etc. But I called her when I was getting dressed so she knew where I stood time-wise. Called when we left breakfast and told her that I still needed to come back to the house but I was almost ready to go. I'm not going to get into it but we didn't leave here until 1:30pm!!!!! That's right for all that time, the whole 3 1/2 hrs we were at her house trying to get her ready. It was not what I wanted.

But we finally left, around 1:30pm!!!!!!!!! We should have been in Tucson already not just leaving but that's another matter. Savie fell asleep on the way up there which is a good thing since it's a 2 hr drive and she wasn't going to get nap in. We got there and did the shopping I went there to do and spent way more than I had planned. I didn't think there would have been that much left in the store but there was. I spent close to $100 on books in that store (stupid store closing sale, lol) and then let Savie play in the play area that was in the mall before making the 2 hr drive back.

And just so you know how tired I am today, I started writing this this morning and now it's 10p and I'm finally finishing, lol. Oh well off to bed I go,

Can you say "yea haw?"

We, the other mommies that we spend time with, try to get together every Wednesday and do some kind of outing with the kids. Today's outing was to go to a horse ranch just outside of town. We have driven by every almost every week when we go to Douglas, so it's not a totally new place for us. It was so much fun. I am so glad that J suggested it. There was a horse there with blue eyes!! I've never seen a horse with blue eyes. I think the lady said that they were Appaloosa's ? I don't remember and I didn't get a lot of their pictures I got more of the kids playing in the carriages they had around the place than anything. The horse's are a mix, Appaloosa's and Arabians. Horse's look so different when they have their winter coats on, lol. She also has burro's but I think they are minis, they have short legs and really big heads, they look kinda silly. Here's pictures of the kids playing and the animals. I'm kinda looking forward to Friday now, I think we are trying go to the pool (indoor).

What a friend

Yes I am going to brag about myself. I have a friend, who started out as a co-worker, that uses me a lot. Not necessarily in a bad way all of the time but one of those friends where when you get home at the end of the day after being with them or dealing with them you are just tired. Now not just physically tired but emotionally and mentally tired. Yesterday I promised to come over and feed the two baby lambs that she rescued from her mother's ranch outside of town (don't ask that's a whole different post) and she said that I could use her washer/dryer since I only have a washer and it was raining here yesterday. So no big deal, feed 2 baby lambs their bottles, wash clothes, let Savie play on the play set outside, easy right?

No such luck. Her washer/dryer situation is bad. It's in another room that is barely big enough to fit the 2 of them in there. I mean they are right there, you can't even really walk in the room because to open the dryer door it pushes you out. It gets a little old and makes my back hurt, I don't know how she does it.

****edited to add more****
So today, the 13th, we went to Tombstone to buy trigger locks for the gun that hubby has because we need them. So it';s a great family day, nice and warm and sunny, we are enjoying ourselves. We've just gotten there, are walking around watching the street fight they have every hour (gotta love Tombstone) when my phone goes off. It's her!!!! I hung up the phone and she calls back!!!! So I finally turn my off off and went on with the rest of our family day.

When we left to come back home I turn my phone back on and she left a message asking me to come get her from her parents ranch, 30 min outside of town!!!!!! how can I say no when I listen to the rest of her story. What a friend I am.

Happy Halloween

Are we having fun or what?? This is out in Wilcox, Az at a place called Apple Annie's. It was so much fun, even though it was just the two of them. That is Savie and Lia, a friend of ours that just turned one a few days ago. It took us about an hour and a half to get out to this place but once we got there it was so worth it. We picked pumpkins and a few other veggies. There had to be a couple of acres of just pumpkins. So glad we went, hopefully next year we will make it to the apple orchard, lol.

Here we are going pumpkin picking, again. We did it once at the beginning of the month with a couple of friends and it was so much fun. This time we stayed local, we not really, but it was only about a 30 minute drive this time. This is PJ and Hank with Savie. As you can see they are having a ball. They have so much fun together even though Hank is a little rougher than he needs to be and his poor mom has a hard time handling him. I feel for her since she has another baby, who is almost a year, and is trying to keep them both happy. I know I couldn't do it so I feel for her.

I will have to come back and post Pictures of Savie in her costume. She had so much fun for her first time trick-or-treating.

Wordless Wednesday

Pretty in Pink
